Candle Label Checklist: Front, Warning Labels & Files

Custom Waterproof Product Labels product detail 3

A candle label request often involves more than one printed piece. The front label carries the brand and scent, while a separate bottom or warning label may carry buyer-approved handling or safety copy. Before asking a printer for a quote, separate those jobs and prepare the seven details below.

This is a print-preparation checklist, not legal, regulatory or burn-safety advice. The candle business remains responsible for the final wording and requirements for its product and market.

1. Separate the front label and warning label

List each piece as a separate item. A useful request might say “one 2-inch round front label and one 1.5-inch bottom warning label per candle.” If the front and bottom labels use different shapes, materials or quantities, state that explicitly rather than combining them into one total.

2. Measure the usable label area—not only the jar

Measure the flat area where the label will sit. Note the jar diameter, the width and height of the usable panel, and whether the surface tapers or curves in two directions. A large label may wrinkle on a compound curve even when its width is smaller than the jar circumference. If possible, include a straight-on photo with a ruler or the container supplier’s drawing.

3. Give quantity per scent or design

State the number of candles, the number of scents or artwork versions, and the quantity for each version. “1,200 front labels across six scents, 200 of each, plus 1,200 identical warning labels” gives a clearer production picture than “2,400 candle labels.” It also identifies which artwork changes and which label stays common.

4. Describe the jar surface and expected exposure

Tell the printer whether the label will be applied to clear glass, painted glass, metal, plastic or another surface. Mention condensation, fragrance oil, wax, repeated handling, abrasion or other expected exposure. These facts help narrow the material and adhesive review, but they are not a performance guarantee; the final construction must be confirmed for the actual order.

5. Describe the intended look and finish

Say whether the desired appearance is matte, gloss, clear, white, metallic-looking, textured or otherwise distinctive. If exact opacity, colour matching or a special finish matters, state it before the quote. Do not assume that a visual reference automatically defines the material, adhesive or final colour result.

6. Prepare one current artwork file

Provide one current AI, PDF or other working file when available. Confirm the intended finished size and identify any dieline. The initial digital check can flag practical prepress issues such as missing bleed, tiny text, crowded safe areas, embedded-image quality, font handling and whether the file size matches the requested label.

7. Add destination and required arrival date

Include the destination country and postal or ZIP code plus the date the labels need to arrive. Freight, duty or tax treatment and feasible production/transit timing cannot be confirmed from quantity alone. Treat the requested date as a planning input until it appears in a written, order-specific response.
